Lockhart Collingwood

The Lockhart area is one of Collingwood's most established and walkable neighbourhoods. It sits in the south end of town, bounded by Hurontario Street to the west and the Train Trail to the east. The streets are quiet, the lots are generous, and daily conveniences - schools, parks, trails, and local shops - are all within easy reach. Let me show you around.

Home Styles

Lockhart is a mature neighbourhood with a mix of detached bungalows, back-splits, and two-storey homes on good-sized lots. Many back onto green space or the trail system. Homes with pools are also found in Lockhart. It is the kind of area where people buy and stay for a while.

Trails

The Collingwood trail network connects directly from Lockhart into the broader 60-kilometre trail system. The Train Trail runs along the eastern edge of the neighbourhood, linking residents north toward downtown Collingwood and south toward the Pretty River Estates neighbourhood, then all the way to Stayner.

A Local Favourite

When you are out for a walk, The Candy Factory on Hurontario Street is a longtime maker of handmade chocolates, brittles, fudge, and sweets. Ask for the chocolate truffles, the mint melt-aways and the milk chocolate. All made in-store and worth making a stop for if you're a chocolate lover or need local gift ideas.

Community Gardens

Free Spirit Gardens, is located in Lockhart between Leslie Drive and Ste. Marie Street. A registered charity rents garden plots from May through October, with proceeds supporting a larger community garden and a portion of produce donated locally. Plots are 10 by 15 feet and tend to fill up each season. See the Free Spirit Gardens Facebook page for details on how to start growing here.

Lockhart Meadows

Lockhart Meadows is the newer section of the broader Lockhart area, sitting just east of the Train Trail off Williams Street and Collins Street. It was designed as a master-planned community by Sunvale Homes, with trail access and a variety of two-storey two- and three-bedroom homes.

Riverside Park

Riverside Park sits right in the heart of Lockhart Meadows and features a naturalized stormwater pond and a remnant woodlot. The playground - called Forest Play Village - is built within the woodland with three elevated play spaces connected by bridges, and mature trees preserved throughout. It is one of the more unique parks in Collingwood.

The Pretty River and the Train Trail

The Pretty River and trail runs along the eastern edge of Lockhart Meadows, and the Train Trail borders it to the west - giving residents Collingwood trail access in both directions. It's a great way to travel through the town.

Collingwood Hospital

Collingwood General and Marine Hospital is just a few minutes away by car. For families and retirees especially, that proximity is worth knowing.

YMCA Child Care

YMCA Child Care is available at both Admiral Collingwood and Our Lady of the Bay locations - a practical convenience for young families.
