A Little Collingwood History

A town steeped in history: Founded in 1852, Collingwood has a rich heritage, evident in its charming downtown core and historic landmarks like the iconic Collingwood Terminals building which is currently undergoing plans to be revitalized and turned into a hotel.

A legacy of shipbuilding: Collingwood's historical heart lies in its shipyards, operating from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. Over 200 ships, including Great Lakes freighters, warships, and ferries, were built here. Visit the Collingwood Marine Museum to delve deeper into this fascinating past and even witness a unique "side launch" demonstration, a technique used due to the harbor's layout.

Lifestyle and Housing Options

A haven for outdoor enthusiasts: Nestled on the shores of Georgian Bay, Collingwood offers an abundance of outdoor activities, including boating, water sports, fishing, hiking, and biking. In the winter, nearby ski resorts like Blue Mountain, Craigleith and Alpine ski clubs provide Ontario’s best skiing and snowboarding experiences.

A vibrant culinary scene: Collingwood locals love their restaurants, specialty food stores and farmers markets. If you’re a foodie like I am, you’re in luck in this town.

A variety of housing options: Whether you're searching for a cozy condo, a spacious single-family home, or a luxurious waterfront property, Collingwood has something to suit every lifestyle and budget. Housing here is generally more affordable than the city.

Ontario's work-from-home sanctuary: Those working from home here enjoy easy access to year-round activities that are traffic-free as well as various co-working spaces like The Foundry.

Many festivals to enjoy: Collingwood was recently featured in the top 100 list for best festival towns in Ontario.
